SCANLATION is a publication for anyone remotely interested in Manga, Comics, Graphic Novels and other similar or adjacent forms of media. The publication features articles covering the influence of American Comics and Japanese Manga have had on each other as well as other popular culture. The publication also features an interview with a manga artist going over their day to day life.

Approach

When developing a style for SCANLATION, it was crucial to keep it fresh but familiar. SCANLATION has many subtle design characteristics inspired by Japanese manga and magazine design. The minimal colors and greyscale images evoke the interior of manga books. The graphics and unique type treatment evoke the design of the ever-so-popular Shonen Jump magazine. All these elements come together to create a unique and entertaining experience to read through.
